Unfair advantages of African Diaspora

When we compare Africans on the continent to Africans in the diaspora, would it be fair to say that the African Diaspora have certain unfair advantages over Africans on the continent and if so what should they do about their unfair advantages in the aid of African development?. It is clear that Africans who live in the diaspora have benefited significantly from their exposure to the developed economies of the western world. They have better access to education and health care, greater employment opportunities, higher living standards and greater financial resources. This places the African Diaspora at a significant advantage when it comes to their ability to capitalise on some of the economic opportunities that Africa has to offer than the average African on the continent. Living in the developed world has also afforded them the advantage of gaining exposure to what works. The African diaspora are in the unique position to observe some of the problems that Africa faces and look for the appropriate solutions that have already been tried and tested in the developed world and find innovative ways of implementing them in Africa. What classifies African countries as developing economies is their unrealised economic potential and the fact that they still face problems where solutions are yet to be found. The economies of the west are classified as developed because they have realised their economic potential and at the same time found solutions to most of their problems. What makes the African diaspora valuable to Africa is their ability to gain insights from both perspectives. They are perfectly positioned to import the best ideas that exist in the developed world and have the intellectual know how and financial resources needed to construct enterprises that utilise those ideas to solve specific African problems. If the African Diaspora is wise and able to see the big picture, they could potentially become a very powerful economic class in Africa. If Africa’s biggest problems are also some of its greatest business opportunities, then the African Diaspora are the main people who can benefit from this as a result of the unfair advantages over Africans on the continent. There is great wealth being amassed by individuals on the continent that is not the result of corruption but through impact investing and finding innovative ways to address some of the continents biggest problems. The only question left is to ask whether the African Diaspora is prepared to grasp the opportunity available to them in Africa and for them to seriously evaluate whether their lives will be significantly better if they came back home or whether they feel that living in the diaspora offers them greater chances of economic prosperity in the long term?
